Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 30

Wow! It's day 30! I am almost sad to see this day come! I have really enjoyed posting a blog a day about thankfulness. I hope you have enjoyed reading them as well. I hope you have been challenged to be thankful for new things maybe you had never thought about being thankful for before. I am thrilled at those of you who joined me in the thirty days of thankfulness challenge. I have really enjoyed reading your thankful posts and blogs. They have been a blessing to me.

Seriously, thirty days doesn't even scratch the surface when it comes to things we should be thankful for. We are so blessed!

So, today, for my last Thirty Days of Thankfulness post, I guess I will say that among countless other things, I am thankful that I was born and raised in America.

I am thankful that I have had electricity, central heat and air, running water and indoor plumbing every day of my life.

I am thankful that if I wanted something I didn't have, I could get in a car and drive to the store and get it.

I am thankful that I can pick up my Bible and read it without fear of persecution.
I am thankful I can share what I've learned from that Bible with others without fear of persecution.
I am thankful that I can choose where to send my children to school.
I am thankful that I can come and go freely when and where I want to go.
I am thankful that I can protect myself and my family.
I am thankful that I can vote for the official of my choice.
I am thankful that I am free to choose the church where I worship.

I am thankful that I do not know what true poverty is. I am thankful that although I may not be wealthy by the world's standards, I am rich beyond all measure in the things that really count. All because God is gracious, loving, and kind and bestows on me blessings that I could never earn, and definitely do not deserve.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 29

Today I am thankful for little things, and for more than enough.

Little things like:
The words, "I love you"
Toothbrushes
Small surprises
A text from a friend
Technology
The chance to help someone
A compliment
My husband warming my side of the bed
Warm towels straight out of the dryer
Hugs from my children
Phone calls from family members
Something that makes me laugh
A listening ear

More than enough:
Blankets on my bed on a cold night
Warm clothes in my closet
Food on my plate
Books on our bookshelf
Love in our home
Friends
Wonderful memories
Of God's loving grace and mercies

Yes, I am thankful for the little things, and the things that we have more than enough of. Things that some people go a lifetime without. Things that I often take for granted, but would miss dearly if they were gone.

One of my favorite authors, Karen Kingsbury has adopted several boys from Haiti. I remember her telling that before they were adopted, those boys would get so hungry, that they would actually eat mud pies, just to ease the hunger pains, so that they could sleep. I can not imagine being that desperate, because I am blessed beyond measure. Today I have nothing to complain about, and everything to be thankful for.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness -Day 28

Today I am thankful for our new church.

I am thankful that our first Sunday there went well.
I am thankful for friends far and near who prayed for us. We appreciate your prayers more than words can say.
I am thankful for our Victory church members, and their love and understanding through the ministry changes. I am thankful for those who were willing to step up and fill in to keep the ministry there running smoothly. We love you all very much!!!
I am thankful for kind people who came to support Marc on his first Sunday, even though they usually attend other places.
I am thankful for the wonderful people we already knew, who are members, that have gone out of their way to help us fit right in.
I am thankful for the precious new people we have met, who have welcomed us with open arms. I can't wait to get to know you all better!
I am thankful that we didn't have to move homes or schools in order to begin this new phase of our ministry.
I am thankful for a Godly husband, who I know will seek God's help every step of the way in leading this sweet group of people.

I am thankful for this ministry opportunity that God has given to our whole family.
We are both excited, and humbled to be called to serve at Thorsby First Baptist.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 27

Today I am thankful for safe travels.

We have traveled far and wide over the holidays for many years, and each and every time, God has blessed us with safe travels. We do not take this lightly, and we are very thankful for God's protection.

We pray each time before we leave, or as soon as we get on the road, and ask God to protect us, and each time He has.

When we left for our Thanksgiving trip the other day, I asked my husband to stop at the store for something I needed. He was gracious to stop. We made our purchase and continued on our way. Just a few minutes down the interstate, we came across a wreck that had obviously just taken place a few minutes earlier. We talked about how that if we had not made that stop, then that very well could have been us involved in that accident. But once again, God protected us, and we are thankful.

We are thankful for God's protection, and for safe travels. And this Christmas season, we pray that you and your family have safe travels as well.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 26

Today I am thankful for fun family traditions.

Three years ago, my friend told me that her son had an elf that came to visit from the North Pole.  The elf got to stay at their house from after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve.  Then the elf had to go back to the North Pole, to get ready for the next year's Christmas.  It sounded like so much fun, that we invited an elf to come to stay at our house.

For the last two years, Ruby the elf has lived with us from after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve.  The youngest princess absolutely LOVES Ruby (the oldest two are pretty fond of her as well).  She brings excitement, mischief, and messes into our lives (much like The youngest princess herself :-))!

So, we got home from visiting family for Thanksgiving, and Ruby had returned for her third year of fun.  The youngest princess could not wait to get home, because she just knew that Ruby would be here waiting for her...And she was right!

I am thankful for the fun that we can have as a family, playing together, and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Here are a few pictures of what we found when we came home:

We have a new family tradition that we will begin this year, but I can't tell just yet.  You will have to stay tuned to see what it is!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 25

Today I am thankful for holidays, so that we can get together with extended family.

I am thankful that our extended family sings together. I am thankful that we pray together. I am thankful that we laugh and play together. I am thankful that we encourage one another, and learn from one another. I am thankful that we watch old home videos together.

I am thankful that although we may be separated by time and distance, we can still get together on holidays and thoroughly enjoy one another's company, as if we see each other every day.

I am thankful for the bonding, and sense of belonging being a part of a family brings.

Yes, I am thankful for holidays, that give us an excuse to gather together as a family, and spend much needed time together.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 24

On this Thanksgiving Day, I have many many things to be thankful for, but today, the young prince turns 13.  I am so thankful for him, and the huge blessing that he has been to our family.

I clearly remember the day that I went to my OB for a regular check-up, and was sent to the hospital, instead of home.  I remember laying in the maternity ward, hearing newborn babies cry, and praying that my son would be safe, and that I would be able to carry him full term.  After a week in the hospital, due to pre-term labor, I was sent home on strict bed rest.  For three months, I was on medication, and was monitored from home.  Once a week, I would go to the doctor for steriod shots, to help the young prince's lungs develop.  Thankfully, God allowed me to carry him full term, and that year, he was born two days before Thanksgiving.  And although he was full term, he still struggled.  He was a scrawny, sickly little guy for a while.  But thankfully, he pulled through all of that, and is a healthy young man now.

He is my only son, and will help to carry on the family name.  He is as precious as can be.  He is very tenderhearted, and full of love and compassion for others.  He has a  huge heart for the things of the Lord.   I have seen him shed tears over lost souls on many occasions. He wants to do right, and he wants to help lead others to do right as well.  He loves old folks and young kids alike, and is comfortable talking to people of all ages.

He is interested in foreign countries, and cultures.  I would not be suprised if he goes to the mission field one day.  He is not afraid to take a stand for what is right.  He says what he thinks, and says it boldly when he knows it is Biblically based.

I know I have said it before, but he reminds me so much of my Daddy.  He has his build, his looks, his mannerisms, and his heart.  I love to watch him and realize how my Daddy must have been at that age.

He is talented in art, and has some musical abilites as well.  He is a fast learner, and like my Daddy, he can fix anything with anything (dental floss is usually his tool of choice).  I think he could write a book on 101 alternative uses for dental floss!  But if Daddy were still around, he would introduce him to the wonders of duct tape and WD-40.  When he discovers the versatility of those two tools and adds them to the amazing capabilities of dental floss, there will be absolutely no stopping him!

He is all boy, and loves being outside, hunting, fishing, climbing trees, and building things.

I love that he is growing up, but is still little in some ways.  He is independent, but still needs me.    I love when he asks to spend time with just me.  I love that he still needs my undivided attention.  I love that he is open to telling me what is on his heart.  I love that he still likes for me to rub his face and back like I used to when he was just a little thing.  He has matured so much in just the last year, that it is hard for me to wrap my heart around the fact that he is no longer a little boy.  I am amazed at what I've seen from him so far, and I love watching him be the godly young man he was meant to be.  I know that if he continues to allow God to use him, that there are great plans for his future.  I am thankful that God allowed me to be his Mom.    I love him much more than words could ever express.  I pray that the fire he has in his heart for the things of the Lord never grows dim, but continues to burn strong for the rest of his life.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and a very Happy Birthday to the young prince.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 23

Today I am thankful for the many coaches that my children have had. The coaches that put in long hours of their own free time, so that children can participate in a sport.

Coaches that have to plan and schedule games. Coaches that teach the basics of a sport. Coaches that encourage kids to work harder and achieve more.

Coaches that know my children's weaknesses, and work to make them strengths. Coaches that know my children's strengths, and work to make them even stronger.

I am thankful for the wonderful people that God has placed in the lives of my children as their coaches.  They are awesome people, and we are truly blessed!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 22

Today I am thankful for teachers. I am thankful for those precious people who gave of themselves day after day, so that I could learn, and be successful in life. I am thankful for the times they made learning fun. I am thankful for the times I learned without even realizing I was learning. I am thankful for those who instilled a love for learning in me and inspired me to follow in their footsteps.

I can actually remember the moment, sitting in Mrs. Miley's 4th grade class, that I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I even remember the lesson she was teaching that day.

I am thankful for the teachers who pushed hard, and would not accept less than our best. They knew our potential, and expected us to live up to it.

I am thankful for the teachers in my children's lives. We are blessed in that they are able to attend a private Christian school. We are blessed that their teachers are all Christians, and not only care for their academic growth, but also care for their spiritual growth. I am thankful for the grace and mercy that their teachers exhibit each day.

I am thankful that they too, push my children to perform to the best of their abilities. I am thankful for the times when my children come home repeating something that they have learned, or talking about something crazy fun that their teacher did or said that day.

Yes, I am thankful for all the teachers that have touched our lives in many ways! Teachers are great people, and we have been blessed with some of the greatest teachers ever!

Proverbs 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 21

Today, I am thankful for my friends.
Old and new
Past and present
Near and far away

I am thankful that God in His great wisdom allowed us to meet, and share important seasons of our lives together. Each of you have added something special to my life, that only you could give at that point in time, and I am very thankful for you.

And as I was going through my Facebook list, and being thankfull for each of you, I realized, several things:

My oldest, as in friends I have known the longest, would be several of you that I have known since first grade.

My youngest, would be some of the students in our school.

My friend that is the fartherest away, is in Australia, although I also have friends in Canada, Germany, and the Dominican Republic, as well as spread across the United States.

My closest geographically would be my next door neighbor.

There are many of you that I know because we went to church together.

Some of you are friends from elementary, middle or high school (and in some cases, all three).

Some of you are college friends.

Some of you were/are co-workers.

Some of you are my students, or teens.

Some of you are relatives.

Some of you are relatives of relatives.

Some of you I see every day.

Some of you I see once or twice a year.

Some of you I haven't seen in years.

But my life is richer, fuller, and more wonderful because of each and every one of you. I love you all, and I am thankful for you today.

Thirty days of Thankfulness - Day 20

Today, on our last Sunday there, I am thankful for Victory Baptist Church. I am thankful for the wonderful people who make up the church. I am thankful for the way they welcomed us in and loved us as if we had always been there. I am thankful for the ministry opportunities that our family had as members there. I am thankful for the friendships, that are more like family relationships, that we have made. Friendships, and relationships that will last forever. I am thankful for those who were so willing to help at a moments notice. I am thankful for those who loved me through the birth of the youngest princess, and the loss of my mother. I am thankful for those who stood with us when Satan was working hard to discourage us. I am thankful for every smile, hug, encouraging word, and most specifically, every prayer.

I am thankful for the lessons we learned as a family, and as individuals during our time at Victory. I am thankful that two of my children were baptized there.

I am thankful for the many people who invested in the lives of our children. I mean truely invested. Not just taught them, but invested their own personal time to come and watch them at some event or another, and encourage them. I am thankful for every nursery worker, Sunday School teacher, Children's Church worker, Children's choir director/helper, AWANA worker, Upward coach and volunteer, and youth worker. I am thankful for the hours you put in, and the sacrifices you make in order for the ministry to run smoothly.

I am thankful for a pastor who loves his people, and teaches them truths from the Word of God.
I am thankful for the music minister (he's my favorite), and that he worked hard to pick the right songs for each service so that the music would honor the Lord, and prepare the hearts of the people to receive God's Word.
I am thankful for those involved in our Spanish ministry, and the blessing they have been to so many souls in need.
I am thankful for those who sing in the choir, and play musical instruments, and how much their willingness to use their talents adds to each service.
I am thankful for those who do the behind the scenes things: office workers, Sunday School Superintendants, ushers, treasurers, and custodians. You all play an important part in making things run smoothly, and in reaching souls for Christ.

I am thankful for the opportunity to have served along with you all, some of the best folks in the world, for almost eight years. And although I am excited to move on to the next ministry that God has for us, I am sad that this time in our lives is coming to an end.

And on that note, I am very thankful that our new ministry is close enough that we don't have to say tearful goodbyes and be separated by long distances.

Today, I am thankful that God placed us in a little church, filled with wonderful people who love Him, and allowed us to love, laugh, and learn with them for the past eight years.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 19

A few nights ago, the youngest princess and I were taking turns listing things that we were thankful for.  It was my turn, and I said, "I am thankful for...chocolate!"  Her eyes got really big, and she sucked in her breath and nodded her little head and said, "Oh yeah!!!  Now THAT'S a GOOD ONE!!!"

So today...I am going to keep this Thankful post short and SWEET.
I am thankful for Chocolate :-)!

And so is Marc...

And so is the youngest princess :-)...

But, as sweet and wonderful as chocolate is, trusting in the Lord is even better! And, trusting in the Lord is calorie free!

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness -Day 18

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
 Aaron Siskind

Today, I am thankful for photographs.

I am thankful for pictures of family members...those who lived before me, so that I can see what they were like, and who resembles who. I love looking at those old pictures and wondering what was going on in their immediate surroundings, in their minds, and in their hearts at the moment the picture was taken.

I am thankful for pictures that hold precious memories of times past. Things that I would have forgotten by now if someone had not captured the moment on film.

I am thankful for digital photography, and being able to see the pictures I take immediately. I am thankful that I can know wether the picture "turned out" or not.

I am thankful for pictures of my mom and dad...so very important to me now.

I am thankful for pictures of my family...they are my favorite subjects.

I am thankful for posed pictures, and silly pictures. I am thankful for individual pictures and group pictures. I am thankful for pictures of places and events.

I am thankful for being able to capture moments in time, and preserve them for now, and for the future.
I think a picture is worth way more than just a thousand words.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 17

Today I am thankful for the Ignite Teens. They are a great group of kids that we've had the pleasure of serving for the last two years. They have been such a joy to be around! There are times when I would be very tired going in to our Ignite service, but I always came out feeling blessed and energized. I wish you all could go, and listen to them sing praises to the Lord. It blesses my heart each and every time. Tonight, knowing it was our last service with them, I just stopped singing and listened to them sing their hearts out in praise, savoring the moment, never wanting it to end.

I am thankful for the crazy times we had on Wednesday nights, all the silly skits and games. "Breaking in" the new youth room (if you were there, you will know what I'm talking about). I will never hear the word squirrel without thinking of them. I am thankful for those who found new life in Christ, by accepting him as their Savior. I am thankful for those who have grown in their spiritual lives by doing their daily quiet times and memorizing scripture.

I am thankful for all of the fun trips and activities we have wonderful memories of, including, but not limited to, Six Flags, ultimate frisbee, R.U.S.H., camp, and my all time absolute favorite - Broomball!

I am thankful for each and every one of them and how just seeing them on Sunday mornings, and Wednesday nights, made my week. I am thankful for the times just hanging out with them, and getting to know their hearts. I am thankful that God allowed our paths to cross, and each one of them to be a part of our lives. We love them dearly, and want to hear and see great things from them in the future!

3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Ignite teens, you know the right things to do. Do them. And you know where we live. Stop by and see us from time to time, because we are always happy to see you, and we are always thankful for you.
And never forget that we LOVE you!

Oh, and by the way...how DO you say burrito in Spanish? (Sorry, Mary'l, I HAD to do it one last time!  Just because I love ya!)

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 16

Today I am thankful for my church families. Yes, that is families as in more than one. I have had the privilege to be a part of several churches in my life, and I am thankful for each and every one of them.

I am thankful for their unique personalities, and the valuable lessons God taught me in each one. I am thankful for the people that I have known along the way. The special relationships that have transcended time and miles.

I can't imagine what, or where I would be without the influence of some of these very special people in my life. People that I may not see for long periods of time, but when we get back together, it's as if we were never apart. People who love the Lord, and strive to serve Him daily.

I am thankful for the people who have seen us through the births of our children. I am thankful for the people who have loved me through the sicknesses and deaths of my parents. I am thankful for those who let our children call them aunt or uncle, because our family is so far away. I am thankful for those who have attended piano recitals, plays, games, and grandparent's day breakfasts as honorary grandparents.

I am thankful that God has given us an opportunity to have a new church family. And I am thankful that it is close enough for us to still see and visit with our "old" church family. I am looking forward to getting to know our new church family, and forming relationships with them as we serve the Lord together.

There is something special about sharing, caring, learning, growing, and worshipping together. It forms a bond like no other. How blessed I have been by the church families that God has allowed me to be a part of.

Psalms 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 15

Today I am thankful for our home.

It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.  ~Author Unknown

I am thankful for the shelter it provides. I am thankful for the safety, love, and comfort I feel when I walk through the door. I am thankful for the possessions it holds, as each and every one of them are a blessing in and of themselves.

But most importantly, I am thankful for the life it holds. The memories of good times and bad, of joys and sorrows. The laughter and the music. The sounds of children arguing, the sounds of them working it out, and the sound of the peace that follows.

Daddy and the littlest princess dancing. Any of the children singing, or playing the piano. Football on the television. Make believe games of restaurant, and beautiful fashion shows. Nail salons and video arcades. Story times and snuggle times. Homework and Bible memorization. Quiet times and loud times...all wrapped up in a shell of boards, nails, insulation, and sheetrock. Held together with love. Lots and lots of love.

Psalms 127:1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 14

Today I am thankful for my extended family.

My brother and sister who are several years older than me. They have always been there for me when I need them. They have loved me, encouraged me, and put up with me, as only a big brother and sister could (like paying me to be quiet, and telling my friends I was out of town for the month when they called and woke him up).

My Sister-in-law who is such a blessing, and encouragement to me. I am thankful that we are more like sisters than in-laws (who else would go out of their way, WAY out of their way, to attend my kids' basketball, volleyball, and flag football games, and to take care of the littlest princess while the rest of us went to teen camp).

My awesome niece, niece-in-law, and nephews. They are the some of the greatest young people in the world...and no, I am not biased at all (wink, wink). I love watching them grow up, and I love watching them grow in the Lord. I am thankful to be a part of their lives, and so thankful the they are a part of mine (Shrinky-Dinks, tents made out of quilts, and missing flights).

My aunts and uncles, and all of the things they have taught me in my life. Like how to shoot a dead limb out of a tree with a shotgun, and how to go snipe hunting (oh, the memories!).

My cousins and the memories we made growing up, and the fun we have when we get together now (riding three wheelers, and putting on dance recitals in the front yard).

My grandmother, and the strength, stamina, and spunk that she possesses (not to mention that she is great at shooting water balloons with a giant sling shot).

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law who have dedicated their lives to seeing people in the Dominican Republic come to know Christ as their Savior (and their wonderful tarantula killing dog Lou).

I am thankful for my extended family, and the way we all fit together. The things we have been through. The times we have laughed and cried together. The memories we have made. I am who I am partly because of these wonderful people that God has placed in my life, and I am blessed to call them my family.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 13

Today I am thankful for my job.

I am thankful that I am free to teach the Bible to my students. I am thankful that I can use Biblical principles in every aspect of teaching them. I am thankful that I have wonderful Christian friends as co-workers. I am thankful that I can take my cares and concerns to my co-workers, and know that they will pray with me, and for me. I am thankful that we help each other out.

I am thankful that I get to be near my own children during the day. I love getting to see them for a few minutes throughout the day, and know how they are doing. I love being able to see them interact with their friends. I love being right there if they need me.

I am thankful that I have a fantastic group of students. They are eager to learn, and quick to pick up on concepts. They work hard. They strive to do right. They have a heart for others, and often put each other before themselves. I am thankful for a great group of supportive parents. I am thankful that they are willing to help if I have to call on them for any reason.

I am thankful for the opportunity to mold hearts and minds for the future. It is definitely a huge blessing, and I pray that I walk worthy of the vocation wherewith I am called, as is instructed in Eph. 4:1.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day 12

Today, I am thankful for good health.
The health of my husband, the health of my children, and my own health.

As I type, a little boy we know fights for each next minute of his life.
Another precious little girl fights the side effects of the Chemo treatments she has to take, while praying for the new friends she has made at the hospital.
Another friend's wife has started a blog to chronicle her fight against cancer.
Another friend awaits nervously for the results of her recent tests.
Another dear friend's grandmother fights valiantly to get better.
And yet another precious family we know faced a first day without their dear loved one.

Health is a huge blessing that I do not now, nor ever, want to take for granted. I am thankful to the Lord, for His blessing of health on my family. And my prayer is for those who are battling health issues and scares to be healthy again soon.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Eleven

Today, I am thankful for the men and women who put their lives on the line, each and every day so that we can enjoy freedom. I am also thankful for their families and the sacrifices they make while their loved ones are serving.

I am thankful that they feel strongly enough in the cause of freedom, that they would leave their homes and families in order to fight for it. I do not know what it feels like to have a loved one in the war, and to worry about them on a daily basis. I don't know what it would be like to have to take care of my children by myself while their daddy was away most of the time. I don't know what it is like to move around from place to place every few years. I have no idea what it's like to live on Army time. But I do know that I am extremely thankful for those brave people who know no other way of life: those who are called to defend and protect our country.

Yes, I am thankful that we have such wonderful sacrificial people who serve in our armed forces, and protect the country I love.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Ten

Today, I am thankful for my very wonderful parents-in-love.

I am thankful for the way they raised their son who grew into the most wonderful man that I married. I am thankful for the way they welcomed me into their family with open arms and hearts of love, and treat me like one of their own.

I am thankful for their testimonies, and how they serve the Lord with all that is in them. I am thankful for the love that they have for others. I am thankful for the great amounts of spiritual strength that they both possess. I am thankful for their wisdom. I am thankful that they keep it to themselves, and are not pushy, but are ready and willing to share it with us, when we ask for it. I am thankful that they tell us often that they are proud of us, and mean it (for some reason, those few words are like a balm to my soul).

I am thankful for their sense of humor.

I am thankful for the love that they have for our children. I am thankful for the time they spend with them, and the ways they strive to make each of them feel special.

I am extremely thankful for their prayers and encouragement. I am thankful for the way they model living for the Lord, and good Christian parenting.

I am thankful for my mother-in-love's colorful personality, and for my father-in-love's humility.

I've often said that I have the perfect in-laws, and I mean it! Today, as always, I am thankful for them both!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Nine

Today, I am thankful for my parents.

I am thankful that they worked hard to provide for our family. We were not rich, but we were comfortable, and we never went without anything we needed.

I am thankful that I always felt loved and accepted, wanted and needed. I felt secure, and there was no place like home.

I am thankful that we laughed, and played together. I am thankful that I was always encouraged to do my best.

I am very thankful for my parent's faithfulness to church. I am thankful that they were involved in a church that taught me the Bible, and how to apply it to my life. I am thankful that they both modeled to me how to serve in many different capacities within the church body.

I am thankful for the wisdom, and advice that they imparted to me along the way.
I am thankful that they were not perfect, but they were honest, and real.
I am thankful that they both had relationships with the Lord, and that one day I will see them again.

Today, I am very thankful for the parents that God gave me, to lead and guide me through my childhood, teen, and young adult years. They are definitely one of the biggest blessings I've ever received.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Eight

Today, I am thankful for the Littlest Princess.

I cannot begin to describe the life and laughter she has brought into our home.

She is full of energy and never at a loss for words.  I think her first words came out in sentence form, and she hasn't stopped talking since.  She loves people and especially telling them what to do.  I have no doubt that she will be in charge of something some day.  She never fails to make us all laugh with something she says or does.  She is the life of the party.

She also has a heart for others.  She doesn't want to see anyone, or anything suffer.  Her tender little heart is the reason that we got involved with the tornado relief in Birmingham.

She loves to snuggle.  She loves to sing, and to dance with her Daddy.  She is smart as a whip, and she keeps us all on our toes.

She is definitely the liveliest blessing I have ever received.  But I wouldn't  have it any other way!  Today I am thankful for our precious youngest daughter.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Seven

Proverbs 23:19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

Today I am thankful for the Young Prince.

I am thankful that even though he had a rough beginning, he is now a healthy young man.
I am thankful that he is 100% all boy, who loves sports, hunting, being outdoors, and building things. He can draw anything he wants. He is crazy creative when it comes to solving problems and making things work.

He is a typical little brother, and a great big brother.  He is fun loving and crazy.  He is an awesome son, and he makes me very proud. He is tenderhearted and kind. He is honest, and loving. He has a sensitive heart for the things of the Lord. He has a huge burden to see others come to know the Lord as he does.

This past week, his football team won the State Championship. Quite a big deal. But, because he is the youngest on the team, and small compared to the other boys, he didn't get a lot of playing time. From the third quarter to the end of the championship game every time I saw him on the sideline, he was pointing up. When I asked him later what he was doing, he said, "I was just giving God the glory, Mom.". Later one of the older boys on the team told my husband that the Young Prince was the one that kept everyone focused on God throughout the season. To me, to hear that is better than if he had played every second of every game. He may not have gotten a medal, and extra recognition on Friday night, but I have no doubt that his reward awaits in heaven.

I love him dearly, and can not be thankful enough for him. He is serving the Lord with his whole heart now, and I pray he will continue to do so in the future. I am very thankful for my middle child and only son.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Six

Proverbs 31:10  Who can find a virtuous woman?  for her price is far above rubies.

Today I am thankful for the Oldest Princess.  The verse above is a verse that we have claimed for her.  Thankfully, so far, she has lived up to it.

I am thankful for my girl.  From the first time I held her in my arms, she held my heart in her hands.  She has been  a joy to our family.  She has added much love and excitement.  She loves people and does all she can to please them.

If I could have special ordered a daughter,  I would have ordered her.  She makes me proud in so many ways.  I love her sweet teachable spirit.  I love that she is independent, but not too much so.  She is an awesome big sister.  I love that she is responsible (most of the time), creative, and organized.

I am thankful for the very precious gift that God gave me in the form of the beautiful Oldest Princess.  I know that He has great plans for her.  I am very thankful that God allows me to be her mother, and gives her dad and me the opportunity to love her and teach her about Him.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Five

Today I am thankful for my husband. He truly is the greatest man on earth! He loves the Lord, and has a passion for helping others come to know and love Him too.

He is a great husband, often going above and beyond to help me out with the kids, and around the house. He is a great example for the young prince to see how a husband should love his wife. He provides protection and strength. He loves me even on my unlovable days.

He is a fantastic Daddy. He has a great balance of love, fun, guidance, instruction, and discipline. He encourages our children to have a daily walk with the Lord. He is wise when answering their spiritual questions. He is a living example of honesty and integrity.

He is wonderful at grilling out, chauffeuring kids around, and playing in the yard.

He works hard and provides for our family. He wears many hats, yet he always has time for us.

He makes me think. He makes me laugh. He is my encourager, my heart, my best friend.

I am very thankful that God picked him out just for me!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Four

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Today, I am thankful for my Bible.  I remember the first "real" Bible I ever owned.  It was a present from my older sister for Christmas in 1980. That Bible carried me many miles.  I used it for many years, Sunday Schools, innumerable sermons, sword drills, teen camps and conferences, Bible classes, even Bible college.  I love that Bible.  I have underlined special verses.  I have written in the margins.  I have cried over it's pages tears of conviction, repentance, forgiveness, longing and love.  It is very special to me. I retired it to a study Bible only when I got married, and wanted a Bible with my married name on the cover. We've been married 16 years, and the "new" one, still doesn't have the broken in feeling that I love about the "old" one.  But it is getting there.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Yet more important than the fact that I am thankful for the actual Bibles (yes, that is plural, because I own several, plus I have my grandmother's, my mom's and my dad's), is the fact that I am thankful for EVERY word written on its pages.  I am thankful that God loved us enough to leave us His word, so that we might have it's guidance anytime we need or want it. I am thankful for the life changing lessons it provides.  I am thankful that I live in a country where I am free to own a Bible and read it without fear of being punished or persecuted.  I am thankful for people who risk their lives to get Bibles into the hands of those who can not legally go to a store and buy one for themselves. I can not even fathom what it would be like to live in a country where reading the Bible is against the law.

Psalms 119:97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

Today, I am thankful for my most prized earthly possesion, and that is my Bible.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Day Three

Day Three

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Prayer.  That is what I am thankful for today.  I can't even begin to imagine what I would do without it.  I love that because of Jesus' death on the cross, we have open access to the very throne room of God.  I can talk to Him any time day or night, and know that He hears, and deeply cares.

Jeremiah 29:12  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

I know that I can talk to my Heavenly Father at any time, about anything.  I receive great comfort and peace from this knowledge.  But more importantly, I know that He will answer my prayers according to his infinite wisdom in His time and in His way.  So I know that I can take my petitions to Him, and walk away in perfect peace, because He is in total control.  What an amazing gift...the gift of prayer!  I am thankful for the privilege of prayer everyday, but wanted to share why I am thankful for it with you today.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness ~ Day Two

Day Two

Habakkuk 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Today, I am thankful for salvation. I am thankful that Christ came to the earth for the express purpose of being the sacrifice for our sins. I am thankful that His death made a way for all of mankind to spend eternity in Heaven. I am thankful for the circumstances in my life that led up to my decision to accept God's gift of Salvation. Things like being born into a family that regularly attended church. All of the many people who invested in my life, and taught me Bible stories, and prayed for me. The teens that were doing the puppet show the Sunday morning, when the Gospel story actually clicked, and I went forward to pray and accept Jesus as my personal Savior. Bro. Johnny Dowell who took me through the plan of Salvation to make sure that I understood it, and then prayed with me, as I prayed to ask Jesus to be my personal Savior. That day changed my life. Following Christ was the single greatest decision I've ever made, and I have never regretted one day of the journey with Him. Yes, today I am thankful for the priceless gift of salvation.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Thirty Days of Thankfulness ~ Day One

Wow! Am I ever glad that today is November 1st!
And for several reasons. Let me share a few...

1. Halloween is O.V.E.R. My spirit just does not bear witness with Halloween.
2. No more evil, scary junk in the stores.
3. No more evil, scary commercials that catch you, and your children off guard.
4. Did I mention Halloween is O.V.E.R?

Now, we can move on to my most favorite holiday of the year! Thanksgiving! It's the holiday that the retailers love to ignore, and can't wait to see go, because then starts Black Friday. I love Thanksgiving for several reasons. Let me share a few...

1. It is the one holiday that is not over commercialized.
2. It has nothing to do with getting, and everything to do with giving.
3. It is about giving thanks to God for ALL He has done.
4. It is about coming together as a family, and enjoying the blessings of the Lord.

So, with that preface, I plan to do this year on my blog what I did last year on Facebook, only in a little more detail here. I am going to post Thirty Thankful posts.
And here is today's:

Day 1

I am thankful for God. I am thankful that He is the one true and living God. That He is loving, and caring. I am thankful that He sent His son to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. I am thankful that because I have accepted His gift, I will live eternally in Heaven with Him. I am thankful that He hears and answers prayers. I am thankful that He never sleeps. I am thankful that He encourages us to cast our cares upon Him. I am thankful for His mercy, and His grace. Yes, He is definitely the starting point of my thankfulness, and I am extremely thankful for the God I live my life to serve and glorify!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Day 1. What are you thankful for today?
